Agriculture Training Centre (ATC)

The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), for the State of West Bengal, at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narendrapur, Kolkata 700 103 started its activity from May 2005.

The Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) was earlier known as the Gram Sevak Training Centre. It was started in 1967 with the financial support of the Department of Agriculture, Govt of West Bengal for Pre-service and In-service training of grassroots level extension workers of Agriculture Department along with the training of farmers’ sons. In 2005 ATC was nominated as the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) by the Govt of West Bengal as well as Govt. of India for human resource development activities, at state level in the sector of extension and management for the extension functionaries of Agriculture and allied Departments. In 2014 the SAMETI, Narendrapur has been declared by MANAGE, Hyderabad as Nodal Training Institute for conducting Govt. of India-sponsored training programme, titling ‘Agri Clinic – Agri Business Centre (AC-ABC).

SAMETI under the aegis of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narendrapur, basically the Agriculture Training Centre (ATC), working as the Nodal Training Institute of Govt. of India approved programs, such as a) 2 semester Post Graduate Diploma iAgricultural Extension Management (PGDAEM) for graduated officers of the Govt as well as Private sectors with specialization on Agriculture and allied subjects; b) 1-Year Diploma in Agricultural Extension Service for the Input Dealers (DAESI) for the at least +2 pass and licence holder agri-input dealers with a view to better extension, and c) 2-month long professional course on ‘Agri-clinic and Agri-business Centre (AC- ABC) for the entrepreneurial minded agriculturally (or allied sector) educated youths.

Not only that, there is also a 6-month Certificate Course in Agriculture for the Rural Youths sponsored by the Dept. of Agriculture , Govt. of West Bengal.

The Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) has made a mark by its proliferation and performance and drawn admiration from the higher echelons of mandarins as well as from the public at large.
